Mariah Carey has inked a unique deal with Pepsi to write and record original downloadable ringtones a part of a summer promotion.
The deal also calls for an exclusive Pepsi Smash concert this summer at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles on July 29, the first stop of Carey’s tour. Radio and retail promos across the country will dangle tickets for two to the show and $200 in spending money.
The ringtones will be available via the Pepsi Cool Tones & Motorola Phones promotion that gives music fans the opportunity to download more than 100 ringtones by a number of artists, including 20 tones from Grammy Award winner Carey. Consumers can find info and a sweeps for tickets to Carey’s concert at Pepsismash.com. The promotion, which ends May 15, is powered by Yahoo. Non-Yahoo ID holders must register to play.
Participants in the promotion also get the chance to win their choice of a Motorola phone including the Motorola RAZR and Motorola SLVR.
A TV-spot featuring Carey kicks off the promotion next month. BBDO, New York, created the spot.
Pepsi’s deal with Carey continues a long history of ties to music and musical artists including Kanye West, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and Green Day. Music marketing agency Mega, Inc., Las Vegas, facilitated the partnership with Carey.
