Pepsi Searches for New CMO

Pepsi-Cola North America is on the hunt for a new marketing chief.

The beverage maker is conducting a search after Cie Nicholson, its senior vice president and chief marketing officer, decided to leave after nearly three years in the post. A reason was not given for her departure.

Company spokesperson Nicole Bradley said Pepsi is “working to fill the CMO position.”

Nicholson, who joined PCNA in 1997, was responsible for traditional marketing practices across the company’s entire portfolio of brands. She oversaw advertising, media, brand development, promotional activities and sports and grassroots marketing for the company’s carbonated soft drinks and non-carbonated beverages.

Before that, Nicholson worked as VP-non-carbonated beverages since 2004, overseeing brands including Aquafina, SoBe, Dole and Tropicana juice drinks and joint ventures with Lipton and Starbucks. Prior to that, she was vice president of carbonated soft drink flavors. While in that role, she is credited with directing the 2001 launch of Mountain Dew Code Red, which became the soft drink industry’s most successful new product in 20 years, the company said.

Prior to joining Pepsi, Nicholson worked nine years at R.J. Reynolds with her last post as director of new brands.
