Orbitz Cuts Global Marketing Post

Online travel services firm Orbitz has eliminated its global chief marketing position, and instead will manage marketing on a local level, the company said.

Randy Susan Wagner, the company’s global marketing chief, plans to leave the post on Feb. 15. Wagner joined Orbitz in May 2005.

The change comes as Orbitz moves to “more of a global regionalization focus” in terms of its marketing, spokesperson Brian Hoyt said.

“Because we are moving to more operational basis, we are keeping the marketing focused in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific reporting to those various organizations,” Hoyt said.

Orbitz is promoting two U.S. based executives to handles marketing. Tom Russell, vice president of offline brand marketing, will be upped to group vice president of offline brand marketing and Aaron Cooper, vice president of online marketing, is being promoted to group vice president of online marketing.

Both report to Orbitz President and CEO Steven Barnhart. The new posts go into effect in January.

Russell is in charge of Orbitz’s TV and radios spots and offline promotions and sponsorships. Cooper handles search engine marketing, Web partnerships and other online strategies. Both oversee marketing for Orbitz.com and CheapTickets.com.

In Europe, marketing teams for ebookers.com will report to Alan Josephs, the general manager. And in Asia Pacific, the marketing group for HotelClub.com will report to
General Manager Chloe Lim.
