Market Logistics Group, Winter Park, FL, sold nine out of the 10 segments of its customer file listed at an online auction for just over $19,000.
The auction had little action from bidders and the final sale prices were very close to the starting bids which totaled $20,000, Michael Dambro, president of the financial services firm said.
Dambro said eight of the segments were purchased by competitor Stratcomm Media, Winter Park, FL, a financial direct marketing firm and publisher, which met Dambro’s criteria of selling the file only to a legitimate buyer in a similar business.
I have no worries and no concerns about how it will be used,” Dambro said.
One segment was still being negotiated with a bidder and one of the largest segments, 3,444 4th quarter 1999 responders with phone numbers, was being relisted for sale. The opening bid for that segment, one of the higher priced, was $2,580.
The auction, listing the 200,000-name response file, opened for bids at AskAD.com Auction, a site for the exchange of unsold online advertising space, Aug. 17.
The sale was Dambro’s third attempt at marketing the file at an online auction. Citing privacy concerns, the sale was pulled in early August from two popular online auction sites, eBay and Yahoo!.
