OfficeMax to Report Loss in Third Quarter

OfficeMax Inc., the Cleveland-based office supplies marketer will have an unexpected loss in the third quarter, according to wire service reports.

The loss in the quarter ending Oct. 21 will be 10 cents a share, OfficeMax said in a statement. Analysts’ average estimate was for profit of 11 cents a share.

The firm, which sells through catalogs and its Web site (http://www.officemax.com) in addition to stores, said it expects to be profitable in the fourth quarter but won’t meet analysts’ average estimate of 30 cents per share.
