Detroit Tigers fans will have a chance to meet former stars of the Negro Leagues in an upcoming promotion sponsored by Chrysler Jeep Superstores and area Dodge dealers.
The fourth annual Negro Leagues Weekend Celebration Games on July 20 and 21 honor the contributions that players made to the game. Proceeds benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation, a local non-profit organization dedicated to improving local baseball and softball fields in the Detroit metro area.
Several Dodge vehicles, including the Chrysler Convertible Sebring LTD, the Dodge Avenger RT, the Dodge Nitro 4×4 and the 2007 Jeep Wrangler will be on display during the two-day event.
Former players will sign autographs before the games on Saturday on the concourse at Comerica Park, and will then participate in a pre-game ceremony on July 20 recognizing their role in baseball history, with a fireworks display to follow.
The Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals will don replica uniforms of the Negro League Detroit Stars and the Kansas City Monarchs the Saturday night game. Tickets start at $10. More information is available at Detroit.Tigers.MLB.com.
The participating Chrysler Jeep Superstores Advertising Association is comprised of 39 Chrysler Jeep Superstores in southeastern Michigan.
