Midas Carries New Flintstone’s Ad Theme to P-O-P

In-store offers are complementing Midas’ new TV campaign that plays on Fred Flintstone, the animated star of The Flintstone’s, bringing his vehicle to a screeching halt using his bare feet as brakes. His sidekick Barney Rubble comes along in the ads as the two question mechanics about getting their brakes fixed.

The offer at P-O-P features the Midas Touch Maintenance Package: An oil change, tire rotation and multi-point courtesy check including brake check for just $29.95. The promotion runs until the end of 2005.

DDB Chicago created the spot, Trust the Midas Touch, that shows Fred and Barney in a Midas shop asking questions of the mechanics that reflect the brand’s benefits: “Is it true you do more brake jobs than anyone else and you guarantee all of your work?” The mechanic replies that Midas in the No.1 brake repair provider, with 2 million jobs each year and confirms Midas’s lifetime guarantee.

Long before The Simpsons or Cartoon Network, The Flintstones aired in prime time from 1960-66. Fred was a blustery, egotistical Stone Age family man who lived in the town of Bedrock and worked in a rock quarry.
