Derek Scruggs, formerly the permission advocate at e-mail marketing company MessageMedia, has opened a business as an independent consultant in Boulder, CO.
Scruggs specializes in strategic permission marketing, helping companies “define their programs and make sure they won’t run afoul of any privacy issues,” he said.
Scruggs left MessageMedia, Superior, CO, as part of a cost-cutting initiative in which about 100 people were laid off on Dec. 14. He had been permission advocate for about a year and a half. Scruggs founded Distributed Bits, which was purchased by MessageMedia in 1998.
MessageMedia has appointed Tom Bartel as acting permission advocate, according to Richard Hurwitz, vice president of marketing communication.
