Live From London: FEDMA And US DMA Join Forces

The U.S. Direct Marketing Association and the European Federation of Direct Marketing Associations have initiated a joint venture to look at the impact of the Data Protection Directive around the globe.

Charles Prescott, DMA vice president of international business development and government affairs, said the study is an update of effort done five years ago by FEDMA. Within six months, information will be available in print and online about at least six countries’ legislative requirements, he said. The report, which will be available for sale to DMA members and non-members alike, will segmented by topics such as ethnic populations and medical information restrictions.

At a joint reception of U.S. and U.K. DMAs yesterday, Prescott said his New York office receives at least two calls a day from DMA members with international data concerns. In addition to the US, countries the study will initially cover are slated to include the U.K., Sweden, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
