Do-Not-Call Registry Fee Hike Proposed
The Federal Trade Commission has proposed raising fees for the national Do-Not-Call Registry list to $56 per area code with maximum fee capped at $15,400 annually, effective Sept. 1. The first five area codes would remain free. The current fee is $40 per area code with an $11,000 cap on annual fees. Federal law requires this registry be used to purge telemarketing lists of individuals who requested not to be contacted by telephone. Written comments on the proposal will be accepted until June 1.
