Susan Kryl has been named the 25th annual Charles S. Downs Chicago Direct Marketer of the Year by the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing (CADM).
She will receive the award on Friday, April 8 during a luncheon at the 2005 Chicago DM Days & Expo at Navy Pier.
Kryl, president of Kryl & Company, began her career at Maxwell Sroge Company, where she rose to senior vice president. She founded the Midwest direct marketing operations of J. Walter Thompson in 1982 and started Chrystal & Kryl seven years later, followed by Kryl & Company in 1993.
She served as president of CADM in 1980-81, during the association’s 25th anniversary year. In 1981, she was honored as both the Advertising Woman of the Year by the Women’s Advertising Club of Chicago and the Advertising Person of the Year by the American Advertising Federation. She won CADM’s Natalie P. Holmes Volunteer of the Year award in 1999 for her long and innovative service, especially as founder of the Direct Marketing for NonProfits seminar sponsored by CADM’s Direct From The Heart program, which she chaired.
Kryl currently serves on the association’s 50th anniversary committee and chairs its marketing sub-committee. For 19 years, she has served as a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Guild Board.
