JMXI, Inc., the Internet research and measurement services firm most recently known as Jupiter Media Metrix, is going out of business. The company will file a Certificate of Dissolution with the Secretary of the State of Delaware on or before May 1, the company announced.
Upon filing the certificate, the company will cease all operations and make a cash liquidating payout to its stockholders.
During the go-go days of the Internet boom JMXI offered a variety of branded services, including Media Metrix, Jupiter Research, AdRelevance, Jupiter Events and LiveMetrix. These services either offered advertising delivery mechanisms or trend and strategic analysis.
But the company fell on hard times, especially after a planned merger with NetRatings in February 2002 collapsed under FTC scrutiny of loan agreements between the two companies. JMXI had been selling off its assets since then. In April 2002 it sold its AdRelevance unit to NetRatings for $8.5 million, and in June 2002 it dealt its research and events operations to INT Media Group Inc. for $250,000.
