Home Depot, Discovery Channel Hype Home Giveaway

(PROMO Xtra) The Home Depot, Discovery Home Channel and Meredith Corp.’s Better Homes & Gardens will this month break a 10-month, multi-pronged campaign to build and give away a home.

The Better Home Better Living: Win America’s Home campaign centers on a sweepstakes that will award a new home in suburban Atlanta. Consumers enter at Home Depot, online or via the magazine. Monthly random-draws choose a semi-finalist, who gets a house key. Ten semi-finalists meet at the house in October; the one who holds the right key wins the house. (The rest get a $500 Home Depot gift cards and sponsors’ products.)

The partners will build the house using data from Better Homes’ bi-annual survey of 60,000 consumers about what they want in a home. Better Homes’ editors work with designers to build the house in Cumming, GA.

Discovery Home Channel will film construction for a 10-part series that will air throughout 2005. (Consumers also can follow construction progress at BHG.com.)

Meanwhile, Home Depot will host Better Home Better Living-branded clinics in its 1,700 stores, timed to match editorial features in the magazine. The first clinic, “You Can Have Fun with Color and Faux,” runs each Sunday in February. Later clinics and features are slated for May, June, September, October and November.
