General Nutrition Centers, Inc. has named Beth J. Kaplan president and chief merchandising and marketing officer.
In the role, Kaplan, 49, will focus on key initiatives tied to the chain’s merchandising, marketing and product development, the company said.
She will report to Joe Fortunato, GNC’s CEO.
In taking the job, Kaplan said in a statement she plans to focus on brand-building initiatives that enhance the company’s relationship with customers, especially women, while expanding its product offerings.
Recently, Kaplan was co-founder and managing partner of Axcel Partners, where she invested in early stage consumer goods and retail companies. Prior to that, she was executive vice president and general manager of Flagship Stores at Limited Brands.
She also worked as senior executive vice president of marketing and merchandising for Rite Aid, where she handled overall corporate marketing and merchandising. In that role, she is credited for developing Rite Aid’s strategic alliance with GNC, which is forecasted to grow to 2500 GNC stores within Rite Aid stores
