Germany to Fight EU Over Online Tobacco Advertising

The German government said it would take legal action against a decision to extend a European Union ban on tobacco advertising to radio, newspapers and on the Internet, according to news reports.

Late last year, EU health ministers approved the law in face of British and German opposition. The rules aim to standardize legislation in the 15 EU states and set clear bans in various media.

But Germany wants national newspapers and magazines that are not sold in other countries to be excluded because such a ban could force them out of business.
