Germany Might Legalize Mail Order Pharmacies

Germany’s proposed reform of its healthcare system could include a first-time sale of drugs by mail, according to news reports.

Right now, many drugs can be sold only by pharmacies owned by trained pharmacists with a license who are prohibited from owning chains.

The proposed changes are part of the German government’s aim to cut welfare spending under pressure from the European Union and economic think tanks.

Health and Social Affairs Minister Ulla Schmidt, aims to present the draft legislation in April.
