Cataloger Fingerhut Cos. Inc., Minneapolis, has acquired a 19.9% equity interest in 1-800BIRTHDAY.com, a direct marketing and Internet birthday gift and reminder service. As part of the agreement, Fingerhut also has acquired the right to increase its equity stake to a majority interest. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
1-800BIRTHDAY.com, Norwalk, CT, offers a wide range of gifts, including gourmet foods, flowers, gift baskets, and singing birthdaygrams through the Internet and the company’s Personal Gift Shoppers, reachable at 1-800 BIRTHDAY. The company also maintains The Birthday Bank, a proprietary database of important birthdays registered by its customers. The Birthday Bank notifies them about upcoming birthdays and offers custom gifts.
