Feds Said to Be Probing eBay Business Practices

EBay Inc., the Internet auctioneer, is being investigated by U.S. antitrust enforcers who are questioning the company’s efforts to stop the use of online software that can search multiple auction sites, according to wire service reports.

The probe, still at a preliminary stage, could help set the legal rules for Internet traffic and commerce. EBay wants users to connect to its auctions only through its own Web site or those of licensed partners. At least two other cyberauctioning firms question this practice.
