Drugstore.com Reports Loss Despite Record Sales in First Quarter

Drugstore.com Inc. reported a net loss of $2.7 million for the first quarter that ended March 31, despite generating record net sales of $120.6 million during the same period. By comparison the company reported a $3.8 million loss for the first quarter of 2007.

Sales of over-the-counter drugs and its expanded product line offered through Beauty.com accounted for much of the overall first quarter sales increase. Sales figures from the most recent first quarter were 10% than the first quarter of 2007.

Total orders grew by nearly 8% to 1.6 million orders. The company reported $12.3 million in mail order pharmacy sales, averaging $164 per order

Drugstore.com served approximately 374,000 new customers during the first quarter, reflecting an 11% increase over the previous first quarter.

The company has 2.6 million active customers who have made at least one purchase within the last 12 months.
