Susan Spencer has been named the head of national promotions for DreamWorks Animation Consumer Products, effective May 23.
In her new role, Spencer will oversee the strategic development and implementation of national promotions for DreamWorks SKG properties, including animation and live action films, home video and TV, including product placement efforts.
Spencer replaces Wendy Ryding, left May 22 to relocate to the East Coast. Ryding will remain with DreamWorks in a consulting role for the rest of the year to aid in the transition.
Ryding had been with DreamWorks for 14 years, where she worked in DreamWorks’ promotion deptarment for eight and a half years. For the last five and a half years, she headed national promotions for DreamWorks Animation Consumer Products.
During her tenure, Ryding worked on a award-winning films indcluding Shrek, Chicken Run, Saving Private Ryan and Prince of Egypt.
In making the announcement last week, Anne Globe, DreamWorks Animation’s head of Worldwide Consumer Products and Promotions, said Spencer’s background and experience would be a great addition for the company.
“Susan’s past experience in promotions and partner management, as well as her relationships with a variety of brand marketers make her the ideal addition to our team,” Globe said in a statement. “We appreciate the terrific job Wendy Ryding has done in this role and we are thrilled to have her remain part of our team in a consulting capacity.”
Prior to joining DreamWorks, Spencer served as VP-local sales and marketing at Universal Studios Hollywood, where she oversaw promotions, corporate sponsorships, Internet and Latino marketing activity. In addition, Spencer was responsible for tickets sales to specialty channels, including corporate, military, youth and education groups.
