Cadbury Schweppes is apparently first through the gate with a branded game optimized for the Apple iPhone—but in a Web-only version, for now.
The game, a version of the familiar “match three” format using Dr Pepper bottle caps, won’t be available for a while as a download users can place and keep on their phones. But iPhone users can access it right away by pointing their phone Web browsers to http://www.drpepper.com/matchcaps, where they’ll find the game already adapted for the Safari browser that Apple has developed for its mobile phone. Visitors can also use the Mozilla Firefox open-source platform to access and play the game on the Web; the game isn’t available to Windows OS users.
In October Apple said that it would issue a software developer’s kit for the iPhone next February, allowing third-party developers to adapt games and other downloadable applications for the browser. At that time it will offer the “Dr Pepper Match Caps” game as a download rather than a Web-based app, Cadbury said,
“Consumers want enhanced access to fun and games on their iPhones, and Dr Pepper will be the very first to deliver it to them,” the brand’s marketing vice president Andrew Springate said in a statement. “With the launch of this advergame, Dr Pepper can interact virtually with its consumers any time, anywhere through their iPhones.”
The “Dr Pepper Match Cap” game was developed for Cadbury Schweppes by Imaginuity New Media, a Dallas-based interactive services company.
