Cover Girl Gets Product Placement in Young Adult Novel

In a rare product-placement deal, Cover Girl, the brand name, will appear in a young adult novel to be published in September.

One sentence in the book reads: “a killer coat of Lipslicks in ‘Daring,'” The New York Times reported yesterday. Lipslicks is a line of Cover Girl lip glosses.

The deal, in which no cash changed hands, calls for Procter & Gamble, the owner of Cover Girl, to promote the novel, Cathy’s Book: If Found Call (650) 266-8233, at its Beinggirl.com Web site targeting young girls in exchange for the product placement.

Running Press is publishing the novel.
