Fiona P. Dias, the executive VP/CMO of Circuit City Stores, Inc., will step down for personal reasons, effective Aug. 27.
Dias will assume a new role with the company as executive advisor of strategic branding initiatives from Aug. 28 through the end of the year, the company said. In her new position, she will assist in the transition of the CMO role and with select projects, including the planned launch of a new services brand later this year.
Dias joined Circuit City as senior VP-marketing in 2000. In 2003, she became president of the company’s online division, Circuit City Direct, and was appointed to the CMO post last year, according to Stephanie Nightlinger, Circuit City spokesperson.
“Dias is credited with leading the growth of Circuitcity.com and driving innovative multi-channel marketing efforts,” Nightlinger said.
The company is currently conducting an internal and external search for a new chief marketing officer, Nightlinger said.
The departure comes at time when Circuit City reported first quarter sales increased 17.5% to $2.62 billion, from $2.23 billion in the same period last year.
“We believe that an improved in-store customer experience contributed to increases in average ticket and conversion rate,” said Philip J. Schoonover, president and CEO of Circuit City, in a statement. “Our multi-channel marketing efforts drove improved traffic trends in all channels, and we saw an increase in Web-originated sales picked up in our stores.”
