Carol A. DiBattiste has been named chief credentialing, compliance and privacy officer of ChoicePoint Inc. DiBattiste is currently serving as deputy administrator of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. She will report to the Alpharetta, GA-based firm’s board of directors privacy committee.
DiBattiste will head ChoicePoint’s credentialing, compliance and privacy office, which has recently been established in Washington, DC. Her responsibilities will include overseeing improvements in customer verification, expanding a site-visit-based verification program, and implementing procedures regarding privacy laws at all level of government.
DiBattiste is a former undersecretary of the Air Force. She has also served as director of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, deputy U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida and an assistant U.S. attorney.
Separately, Associated Press reported that Adedayo Benson, who used personal information from ChoicePoint, Advantage Financial and Equifax to commit identity theft during 2002, was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in federal prison. He was also ordered to pay nearly $155,000 in penalties to 10 financial institutions, according to AP.
Benson opened mail drops, at which he received redirected credit cards he obtained based on identity thefts, the AP reported. Benson’s sister, Bibiana Benson, was sentenced to 4 1/2 for her role in fraudulently obtaining the consumer information, the AP reported.
The Bensons’ fraudulent activities occurred in 2002, and are separate from those of Olatunji Oluwatosin, who in mid-February was sentenced to 16 months in prison for misusing 145,000 records obtained from ChoicePoint.
