China’s state-run telecommunications company is planning to crack down on junk e-mail by cutting off senders of unsolicited commercial e-mail from the Internet and even bringing criminal charges against the worst offenders, according to wire service reports.
In measures to be directed against users of China Telecom’s Internet protocol network, the Chinese government plans to warn and put violators on a monitoring list. If they continue to send unsolicited e-mail after three days, they face account suspension, termination or even criminal investigation for the worst offenders.
The telecom giant will also set up a special mailbox to receive complaints from spam victims.
