Harry & David Holdings, formerly known as Bear Creek Holdings Inc., generated $57.7 million during its first quarter 2006, up from $53.7 million a year ago. The fruit and gourmet foods marketer took a net loss of $17.3 million for the quarter, a decrease from the $20.7 million net loss it realized a year ago. The quarter ended Sept. 24.
The Medford, OR-based marketer attributed its revenue increase to stronger direct marketing sales. It generated $26.4 million through its catalog, telemarketing and Internet activities, a 5.4% increase from last year’s level.
Part of the rise came from an 11% increase in catalog circulation. Harry & David boosted the number of books it printed in advance of the 2005 holiday selling season.
