Just in time for the holidays, the League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. is making gift giving a little easier for consumers through a new Visa-branded Broadway gift card, a prepaid card that can be used to buy tickets to Broadway musicals, shows and plays.
The gift card lets recipients buy tickets to any show at the 39 Broadway playhouses in New York and theaters in 140 other cities where touring Broadway shows visit. Recipients can choose from a variety of productions, including Broadway favorites Chicago, 42nd Street, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, The Producers and Twelve Angry Men.
Alan Cohen, a spokesperson for the League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. predicted the Broadway gift cards will be a big hit among consumers. They’re not only ideal for Christmas, but also make great birthday or anniversary gifts, he said.
“There’s something for everyone in the theatre,” Cohen said. “Having a gift card takes a lot of the guesswork out” of selecting a specific show and time for the recipient.
The gift cards are available in three denominations: $155, $195, and $225—enough to cover the cost of two touring Broadway show tickets or two tickets to a New York musical. Broadway tickets typically range from $50 to $100 per person, depending on the show, date and location, Cohen said.
Tickets can be purchased online at Livebroadway.com or in person at the Broadway Ticket Center in Manhattan’s Times Square Information Center. The gift cards expire one year from the date of purchase, Cohen said.
Any balance left on a gift card can be used where used anywhere Visa is accepted.
Founded in 1930, The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., is a national trade association for the Broadway Industry. The league operates under the trademark, “Live Broadway.”
