IVillage’s first quarter net loss widened from $12.2 million a year ago to $17.9 million during the quarter just ended. First quarter 2002 figures included a $5.4 million charge related to canceling an advertising contract with NBC.
IVillage’s revenue rose from $15.1 million, up from $12.6 million a year ago. The quarter ended March 31.
“The continued uptake of iVillage’s pay-for-use products, as well as subscription services, shows our ability to diversify revenue while we continue to sign new advertising clients,” Doug McCormick, iVillage’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement.
The company is in the process of acquiring Promotions.com, an agency that links Internet promotions with offline marketing campaigns. The deal is expected to close May 24. Promotions.com generated $1.4 million during the first quarter.
IVillage provides women’s information and media, both online and in print form. Its holdings include iVillage.com, Women.com, Business Women’s Network, Lamaze Publishing, The Newborn Channel, and Astrology.com. The company is based in New York City.
