Blyth Reports $15.6 Million Loss in Quarter

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Blyth Inc., a direct marketer of home fragrance products, posted a net loss of $15.6 million for the second quarter, compared to net income of $3 million for the prior year.

The multichannel company reported sales of $199.4 million for the quarter ended July 31, a 16% decrease from $236.8 million last year.

Management attributed this to scaled-back spending from U.S. consumers.

Blyth posted catalog and Internet sales of $39.3 million for the quarter, a 6% decrease from $39.3 million in the prior year.

The firm attributed this to a planned catalog circulation reduction for its Miles Kimball Co. brands, as well as the recessionary sales environment.
