Russ Klein, the president of global marketing strategy and innovation at Burger King, will resign effective Dec. 15.
Klein cited personal reasons for his departure after six and one-half years with the company.
Peter Robinson, the former president of Burger King’s Europe, Middle East and Africa business segment, has been named to oversee global marketing on an interim basis while the company conducts an executive search. Robinson has worked for more than 30 years in the consumer foods industry. He has extensive leadership and marketing experience with brands such as the Frito-Lay International Division of PepsiCo, Kraft General Foods and Procter & Gamble,” Burger King said.
Russ’ executive and marketing leadership was a key factor in the company delivering six consecutive years of positive comparable sales through fiscal 2009,” John W. Chidsey, Burger King’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a release. “Russ has been a valued member of the global executive team and his passion and dedication will be missed.”
In the first quarter of fiscal 2010, Burger King reported total revenues were down 5% at $636.9 million, compared to $673.5 million in the same quarter last year. Sales were negatively impacted by the record levels of unemployment “especially as it related to the company’s targeted demographic,” the company said.
