Ben & Jerry’s Offers Free Cone Day

Ben & Jerry’s is offering consumers a sweet incentive to boost brand loyalty among its already loyal following—free scoops of ice cream for a day.

The Burlington, VT-based ice cream chain is offering free cones (or scoops of ice cream in a cup) from noon to 8 p.m. on April 25 at more than 400 stores worldwide as part of its annual Free Cone Day.

The promotion marks the 28th year Ben & Jerry’s has participated in the cone giveaway. The incentive is designed to thank loyal customers for their business, said Ben & Jerry spokesman Sean Greenwood. Last year, the ice cream chain gave away more than 1 million free cones worldwide.

“Everybody loves to get something for free,” Greenwood said. “For those folks who have not tried our products before…to come and get that super premium and get it for free is a great opportunity.”

The Free Cone Day in part is designed to let consumers sample Ben & Jerry’s new ice cream flavors, including Turtle Soup (vanilla ice cream with fudge and caramel cashews and a caramel swirl), Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl (chocolate ice cream with thick peanut butter swirl), American Pie (cinnamon-brown sugar ice cream with apples and pie crust pieces). Strawberry Cheesecake (strawberry cheesecake ice cream with strawberries and a graham cracker swirl), Bananas on the Run (banana ice cream with a rum brown sugar swirl) and Baklava (sweet cream ice cream with praline walnut baklava pieces and a honey-caramel swirl).

During Free Cone Day, consumers can stand in line to obtain a free cone as many times as they want, Greenwood said.
