AMERICA ONLINE USES MADONNA TO BOOST SIGN-UPS

Vienna, VA-based America Online last week announced a global sponsorship of Madonna’s upcoming concert tour and a related customer-acquisition activation effort.

The online service provider will link the sponsorship to content as well as ongoing subscription activities. Beginning this week, new AOL subscribers will be able to grab two tickets to one of Madonna’s U.S. concert dates. After signing up, they call a special toll-free Ticketmaster number. Current AOL members will also get limited access to the ticket pool prior to the general public sale later this month.

Members will also get exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the tour via chats, backstage Web cams, and other exclusive features. Expect the usual plethora of signage and direct-mail bill-stuffers to support. The promotion was facilitated through tour promoter SFX, New York City, and Ticketmaster, also New York City.
