Adidas Salomon Wins Sponsorship of 2008 Olympics

Adidas Salomon-AG has won the sponsorship rights to the 2008 Olympics as the official sportswear partner.

The German sneaker giant will outfit the staff, volunteers and technical officials of the Beijing Games, as well as the Bejing 2008 Paralympic Games. It will also outfit the Chinese Olympic team in 2008 and Chinese athletes will wear only Adidas-branded apparel in the upcoming 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Adidas said that China is its fastest growing market and that the deal will increase its brand profile with consumers in that market. The Adidas-Salomon Group has been active in China for 20 years.

Last October, Adidas struck a $100 million, 10-year sponsorship deal with Major League Soccer.

In that deal, the company will supply match balls, run field-side advertising and will be the only sports brand advertised during TV broadcasts of MLS games, starting with the 2005 season.

Adidas will also have exclusive rights to branded clothing and equipment for MLS’s 12 teams starting in 2006.
