Acxiom Names Asia-Pacific Sales Manager

Acxiom Corp. has named Barry Adams director of business development for Asia.

Adams, who has experience in sales within the region, will be based in Hong Kong.

“This move is also strong recognition of Acxiom’s determination to expand its unique capabilities in China and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Frederic Jouve, who leads Acxiom’s greater China business, in a statement.

“The great resilience and huge potential of the APAC market has been proven, and we expect to see even further strengthening of the market in the near future,” Adams said in a statement. “However, significant challenges still exist for local companies, for whom tailor-made marketing strategies based on an understanding of their consumers’ behavior are becoming essential.”

The Cartographer’s Take: Never mind England and America being two countries separated by a common language: The political distances between Hong Kong and China are considerable. Adams – or anyone in a similar position – is going to be earning a lot of Cathay Pacific frequent flier miles doing the on-the-ground work getting in good with mainland China officials requires.
