Family members can star on postage stamps |
Say “cheese” and your grin could soon be making its way through the U.S. postal system.
Via a deal last month with mailing equipment manufacturer Pitney Bowes, and thanks to $16 million in equity funding, San Francisco-based Zazzle is rolling out its latest customized print product: personalized postage stamps that can be used for first-class mailing in the U.S. or abroad.
Targeting tourists at popular sites in New York City and San Francisco beginning this weekend, street teams will photograph people, and invite them to “Put Your Stamp On Life.” The teams will then offer consumers a chance to retrieve the photo online at
Zazzle.com. At the site, the personal photos (or others from the Zazzle gallery of images) can be ordered as first-class postage stamps in sheets of 20. Swivel Media, San Francisco, handles the guerilla campaign.
Just like other types of postage, ZazzleStamps may be used in combination with regular U.S. postage to send letters from the United States both within the U.S. and internationally. A black and white bar code along one side helps prevent counterfeiting or other fraud.
A $16 million series A round of equity funding, led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (early investors in Google) and joined by Sherpalo Ventures, was completed last month and helped Zazzle launch its latest venture.
“We are pleased to have such an experienced and committed group of investors supporting Zazzle,” said Robert Beaver, president and CEO of Zazzle. “Their support will help us to expand our marketplace, as we drive to provide all individuals with an outlet where they can create and share products, limited only by their imagination.”
