Yankee Candle Co. is running a cause-marketing campaign selling new products to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc, a cause it has championed before.
This year, the retail chain is donating $1 to the foundation for each Mandarin Cranberry scented custom labeled breast cancer candle and reed diffuser sold. In addition, Yankee Candle will donate 10% of the proceeds from each Car Jar 3-pack to the foundation.
“Everyone has been touched in some manner by breast cancer, whether it’s a friend, a mom, a sister a wife or neighbor who has been impacted,” Rick Ruffolo, Yankee Candle’s senior vice president of brand, marketing and innovations, said. “This is our small way of helping customers by giving them an opportunity to give back.”
This is the third year the company has run such a campaign, he said. Last year, Yankee Candle raised more than $100,000 for the foundation, more than doubling its first contribution in 2006, he said.
Yankee Candle is promoting the effort through its more than 450 stores, on its
Web site and in its catalogs. The company also runs a cause-marketing promotion tied to the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative in February. The firm has raised nearly $500,000 for that cause within the last three years, Ruffolo said.
