USPS: No Anthrax at Three Facilities

The U.S., Postal Service has given a clean bill of health to three of its facilities currently suspected of having anthrax contamination.

According to Vito Cetta, USPS district for Central New Jersey, preliminary tests of the Kilmer (Edison) or Monmouth (Eatontown) Processing and Distribution Centers conducted on Aug. 18 revealed there were no anthrax spores present.

“We won’t be doing any further testing,” said USPS spokesman Dan Quinn. “If there’s no anthrax, there’s no anthrax.”

Meanwhile, the USPS and District of Columbia Department of Health reported that July 29 anthrax tests at the Washington D.C. Processing and Distribution Center, also known as Brentwood, also came out negative.

The USPS began testing the Monmouth and Edison centers after a construction contractor sampled dust from equipment in areas where mail is received and sorted. (DIRECT Newsline, Aug. 20).
