USPS Denies Arkansas Layoffs Tied to Politics

The U.S.. Postal Service said a move to cut 500 jobs in Arkansas is not a politically motivated decision to hurt Republican Sen. Tim Hutchinson’s re-election campaign, according to the Washington Times.

A USPS spokesman discounted reports that its former chief lobbyist, Deborah Willhite, ordered the move to embarrass Hutchinson and help his Democratic rival are false. Hutchinson and his Democratic rival Mark Pryor are tied in the polls, the Times reported.

The Arkansas race is one of about five across the country that could give Senate control back to the GOP.
