Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp has settled claims with Ohio and 37 other states over its practice of selling sensitive customer information and financial data without the consent and knowledge of its customers.
This settlement mirrors an earlier one made with the Minnesota state attorney general.
Under this settlement, U.S. Bank, a unit of US Bancorp, agreed to stop the practice of sharing customer account information with third parties for purposes of marketing non-financial products and services. The bank will make refunds to credit card holders in Ohio whose information was provided to marketers and who purchased a product or service but did not use it.
