Nearly half of the nation’s music listeners are turning to the Internet to find artists they can’t hear on local radio stations. Most of these listeners say hearing a new song or recording artist online leads them to buy new music at a store in their town, says a study by the Digital Media Association.
A total of 48% of those surveyed said they go online to hear music that is not played on radio stations in their communities. The response was higher, 62%, among those who have downloaded music over the Internet.
The study polled more than 16,000 people aged 13 and 39 who listen to more than 10 hours of music per week and have purchased more than $25 of music in the past six months.
