Dating Market Runs Bare
Unapproved creatives have just killed the dating vertical in the
online marketing space. Rogue publishers have been building their own
banners and running them on unapproved pornography sites as well as
dropping the images to users’ desktops. The "desktop droppers" as
they are called, are promoting ads of naked girls [who appear to be
under age] and these images are showing up as icons on the desktops of
clickers. Several dating Companies have caught their campaigns being
victimized by this type of malicious advertising, and as a result,
they are pulling their entire buys from networks. The "underaged and
unapproved" creatives are also being run as leaderboards on porn
sites, which is a second and equally unfortunate means of advertising.
Can we ever clean up our good name? We will never achieve TV-type
budgets with behavior like this transpiring.
Germans Advertising
Examine your health, then examine the health of your friends in the
industry. Well, face it, you may not have any real friends, but
co-workers, affiliates or guys in your vertical will serve the
purpose. Are you presently ill? Is everyone you know sick? I have
suffered a cough, sinus headache, swollen glands and sore throat for
nearly four weeks. Every meeting I engage, every person on the phone
and every "friend" I speak to is sick and getting sicker. Us online
marketing folk aren’t getting 24-hour flu viruses or headaches that
spring up and go away with a couple Advil. Have you asked yourself
what is going on here? Why the chronic illness amongst so many of the
online marketing merchants? If you are ignorant or in denial of the
"performance plague," look around your office. How many of "them"
have Kleenex at their desk? Have the boisterous phone voices turned
to coughs and streaming AIM sessions? Cricket… cricket… cough…
cough… germs.
Ad:Tech Trapper Keepers
The organizers of Ad:Tech New York, the world’s least exclusive and
most expansive online marketing megadeath, are hard at work making it
as hard as possible on all of us attendees. These spankees decided
for the 95th consecutive year, it would be a fantastic idea to hold
Ad:Tech NY the same week as the New York marathon. Rates at motels
with rooms smaller than the keyboard I type on are running in the $400
range. Wait another week to book and you’re bound to be forced to stay at the
HoJo by LaGuardia airport. I am astounded that this is the worst year
yet! I didn’t know it was possible to have more people in the city at
once than they had last November, but apparently, it is happening. In
addition, streets will inevitably be closed off, making it even more
arduous to navigate the city and make it to your meetings on time.
Hopefully I won’t fall in one of those "holes in the sidewalk" this
year.
