SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA: will roll out the PlayStation Patrol, a 40-foot-long vehicle featuring 12 PlayStation 2 interactive kiosks and eight PlayStation portable kiosks to the Chicago, IL, area this week. The vehicle will include the latest and best-selling videogame titles available across PlayStation platforms. The PlayStation Patrol Scout, a PlayStation branded Hummer h2, will accompany the vehicle. The vehicle will be open from noon to 8 p.m. July 15, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 16 and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 17. Coupons will be available for discounts on PlayStation 2 or PSP software titles.

THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION: and the Department of Health and Human Services will co-sponsor a workshop on marketing, self-regulation and childhood obesity today and tomorrow in Washington, DC. Attendees will include representatives from food and beverage companies, medical and nutrition organizations, media and entertainment companies, consumer groups, advertising organizations and others. SYNERGY SPORTS: Ocean, NJ, hired Stan Phelps as VP-account development, a new post at the event marketing and promotions agency. He had been director of marketing and special events for Reed Exhibitions handling the PGA Merchandise Show and the PGA Fall Expo. Phelps joined Synergy in June.

THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE: and the NHL Players Association reached an agreement Thursday on the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement. The new deal is expected to be ratified next week, and would end the lockout for players. None of the league’s sponsors have announced plans for the 2005-06 season, which could begin in October.

ELECTRONIC ARTS: has signed a multi-year agreement with John Madden to continue to license his name and to appear in and consult on future editions of the Madden NFL football games. The 17th version, Madden NFL 06, is being released Aug. 9.
