Neiman Marcus has issued its 80th annual Christmas Book. This year’s edition offers its usual selection of offbeat gifts, including a charter flight into space via Virgin Galactic ($1,764,000.00 for six-person space trip charter); a backyard water park (an assortment of sprays and water cannons starts at $100,000); and a one-of-a-kind 26-volume set of couture designs from women’s fashion designer Jacques Fath ($3.5 million).
For those consumers finding these offerings too rich for their blood, the catalog also offers limited edition pet homes from Italian designer Marco Morosini, which range from $5,000 to $7,000, depending on how much pet owners really love their pets; or a seven-foot-tall skyscraper sculpture made entirely of #2 pencils.
As it does every year, the catalog will feature a charity: This year, it is the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, which combats domestic violence. This year’s fundraising package is a sports lover’s dream, and includes tickets to the 2007 NHL All-Star Game in Dallas; Super Bowl XLI in South Florida; the 2007 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas; the 2007 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Francisco; the 2007 US Open Tennis Championships Women’s Final in Queens, NY; and a bonus surprise event. The package also offers a chance to share a private meal with a living legend from each sport, including hockey legend Wayne Gretzky; football superstar Troy Aikman; basketball great Magic Johnson; baseball hall-of-famer Bob Gibson; tennis legend Chris Evert; and links legend Arnold Palmer. There is only one of these packages being offered via auction, and bidding starts at $250,000. All proceeds benefit the Safe at Home Foundation.
The Christmas catalog will be distributed to nearly two million homes throughout the United States and worldwide, according to the company. Non-recipients may order it for $15 by calling 1-800-NEIMANS. The catalog’s contents are also online at www.neimanmarcus.com.
