Racecar fans can bid for authentic collectibles of rubber tires used and autographed by their favorite NASCAR drivers.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the exclusive tire supplier for NASCAR, is making the 43 tires available for an online auction to benefit the NASCAR foundation, which supports a variety of charitable activities.
Goodyear’s “Get there” charity auction, at GoodyearGarage.com, runs through July 15. The tires are autographed by NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and others. It represents the largest group of certified NASCAR race-used tires that the organization has put up for auction, the company said.
Each tire comes with a certificate of authenticity, including the driver’s name and car number, the race in which the tire was used, the driver’s order of finish and the tire’s RFID number. Minimum sales prices have been set for each tire, based on anticipated bidding interest, ranging from $100 to $250.
“We are proud to help support The NASCAR Foundation by offering fans the opportunity to get a piece of the action,” said Stu Grant, Goodyear general manager of global race tires, in a statement.
The tires were on display last weekend at the Daytona National Speedway Fan Zone for the Pepsi 400 Weekend, along with six Web-ready kiosks where fans could bid for the tires.
NASCAR is currently the top spectator sport in the country, claiming a national base of 75 million fans that buy $2.1 billion in NASCAR-licensed merchandise each year.
