MSN Music is giving away downloads of Grammy-nominated songs this week, with a different category highlighted each day through Feb. 12.
The songs will be announced each day and selected by MSN Music’s editorial team, which consists of professional musicians and producers, record label executives, music journalists, DJs, promoters, and artist managers. Their selections will be based on which song they think will win the Grammy in the respective category.
The promotion is being run to lure potential new users to the site, which competes against Napster and Apple’s iPod site, according to Rob Bennett, senior director of MSN Entertainment at Microsoft Corp.
It is being promoted on the Internet with banner ads, and on the Web site of Grammy and MSN Music sponsor Heineken. The imported beer brand is sponsoring a Heineken Lounge experience on MSN Music that contains videos from Grammy-nominated artists, highlights of last year’s Grammy Awards, and the news and photos of top nominees.
The Grammy’s will be held Feb. 13 at The Staples Center in Los Angeles.
