Mail Abuse Prevention System LLC (MAPS) and Media3 Technologies have reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed after MAPS listed Media3 on its list of alleged spammers.
The terms of the agreement were confidential.
Media3 was removed from MAPS Realtime Blackhole List of alleged spammers on Aug. 30, the day the settlement was reached, said Bob Hayes, co-CEO of Media3 Technologies, a Web-hosting company based Pembroke, MA. “We’re pleased with the results,” he said.
The RBL is monitored by numerous Internet Service Providers that block e-mail from the Internet Protocol addresses listed in the RBL.
In December 2000, MAPS listed 1,500 IP addresses of Media3 on the RBL. Media3 subsequently filed a lawsuit against MAPS requesting a court order to be removed from the list. Media3 lost its bid for the preliminary injunction and discussions ensued with MAPS culminating in the settlement, according to MAPS.
“I can say that MAPS and Media3 have achieved a reasonable accord, and that we’re pleased with the outcome,” said Anne P. Mitchell, MAPS’s director of legal and public affairs.
MAPS is based in Redwood City, CA.
