At the LeadsCon Buyers Summit last week in Las Vegas, Jonathan L. Pompan, attorney at law with Venable LLP, gave a presentation titled, “What Lead Generators Need to Know About the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).” The session offered a helpful overview of what the CFPB is, what the organization’s objectives are, where its authority lies and takeaways for those in the business of generating leads.
Pompan called the CFPB “the new FTC for consumer financial products and services.” He noted that despite its name and stature, the organization actually hasn’t created a single new requirement regarding the products and services it regulates. However, the CFPB “is enforcing all laws that are presently on the books in a manner that hasn’t been seen before.”
