JCPenney to Close Texas Call Center

The J. C. Penney Company Inc. will close its Austin, TX catalog call center in the second quarter as part of an effort to reduce expenses in excess of $200 million annually.

The volume will be reallocated to other call centers. Approximately 475 positions will be affected, according to the Plano, TX-based retailer.

Other cost cutting measures will include a corporate restructuring within the department store, catalog and support function divisions. The company also plans to refine its marketing expenditures.

The company projects annual savings of $100 million, half of which would occur this year.
