Direct Response to Acquire Connecticut Life & Casualty

Direct Response Corp., a White Plains, NY-based holding firm for several direct response auto insurance companies, will acquire Connecticut Life & Casualty Insurance Co. Connecticut Life & Casualty Insurance is a direct automobile and homeowner policy writer based in Meriden, CT. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Direct Response Corp. plans to expand Connecticut Life’s offerings into states currently served by its Response Insurance holding, which provides auto coverage in New York, California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland and Georgia. Connecticut Life will continue to operate under its own brand name and management, and chairman and CEO Robert S. Weiss will stay with the company.

Yellow Book USA Buys Four Florida Directories from The SunShine Pages Yellow Book USA, a wholly owned US subsidiary of British Telecommunications plc, has acquired four yellow pages directories from The SunShine Pages in North Palm Beach and the Martin St. Lucie areas. These directories are distributed to more than 300,000 residences and businesses. The new directories, to be re-branded as Yellow Book.com, will include comprehensive yellow pages, white pages, a community information section, restaurant menus, area maps and coupons.

Yellow Book will also open its online companion product, http://www.yellowbook.com, to North Palm Beach and Martin St. Lucie area businesses.

Since 1997, Yellow Book USA has made a number of strategic acquisitions including Sprint Publishing’s Midwest Operations, Dixie Directory Company, Inc., Yellow Page One, Inc., Directory Publishers, Inc., Southern Directory Company and R.H. Donnelley’s Proprietary Operations. In August 1999, Yellow Book USA was acquired by British Telecommunications plc.
