An Illionis car dealership has agreed to pay $6.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit over the sending of unsolicited advertising faxes.
Newbold Toyota-BMW sent more than 33,000 faxes to business and individuals between January and February of last year, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Each recipient can claim up to $500 under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, according to the Post-Dispatch.
The dealership’s owners reportedly didn’t know the practice was illegal. The firm that sent the faxes, American Blast Fax, Dallas, is out of business, the report said.
The suit was filed by St. Louis attorney Steven Katz with St. Clair County, MO Circuit Court.
